Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Manchester United’s Anthony Martial amid rumours that Harry Kane could depart, the Daily Mail say.
Tottenham have reportedly been making plans to replace Kane for some time now, with a belief within the club building that he could leave this summer.
The news last night, that he has apparently asked to move on, should come as no shock to Tottenham then.
The Mail say that Spurs have been planning for this possibility for a long time now.
Interestingly, they claim that United’s Martial and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus are being eyed as potential options in swap deals.
United and City are both keen on Kane, and Spurs apparently may be open to taking a player in a swap deal.
Martial certainly looks an intriguing option and it is a transfer that surely wouldn’t have happened if Jose Mourinho had stayed in charge.
Mourinho managed Martial at United, but the pair didn’t get on too well.
Mourinho said to Bleacher Report, of the Frenchman: “They are lacking maturity. And let me be clear when I say maturity, I mean maturity on a personal level.

“We’re talking about Luke Shaw, Martial, Lingard, Rashford—young, big potential, but at the end of the day it results in the word I cannot say [cojones], but you use it a lot here…character, personality, they lack a little.”
It was also claimed in the Times that Mourinho thought Martial was mentally weak.
If Martial was to join Spurs then he would arrive with significant boots to fill.
The £58m forward (BBC) has shown flashes of quality at United, but his lack of consistency has frustrated numerous managers.
Martial would, at least, be given a run of games up-front if he joined Tottenham, which is where he feels at his best, but to cover for Kane he would have to deliver to a level he has previously found difficult to sustain throughout his career.
