A new report has said that the Tottenham Hotspur squad were surprised to see Cristian Stellini appointed as their caretaker manager instead of Ryan Mason.
Many would find this claim a surprise themselves, considering it is not as if the former Spurs midfielder has broken any barriers in the coaching world yet.
However, it seems the Tottenham Hotspur players were more on board with Ryan Mason overseeing things as their interim manager instead of Cristian Stellini.
Tottenham players wanted Ryan Mason as caretaker manager, not Cristian Stellini
The Italian coach was sacked by the club after his side suffered a shock 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday evening.
Ironically enough, Stellini had once said, as quoted by the Evening Standard that the Englishman had all the traits to become a ‘great coach’ one day.
The Telegraph journalist Matt Law has now reported that the players at Tottenham were ‘puzzled’ why Ryan Mason was not tasked to become the manager ‘immediately’ instead of Cristian Stellini after Antonio Conte’s exit.

Further details claim that it was in fact Fabio Paratici who recommended Spurs to keep the faith in his fellow countryman, who had led the side to a crucial 1-0 win against Manchester City in particular.
HITC View: Clearly, the Tottenham players did not rate Stellini highly
The fact that the Tottenham squad were more on board with Ryan Mason instead of a manager-in-the-making in Cristian Stellini who has worked with Antonio Conte all these years speaks volumes.
Being trained under Stellini since Conte’s arrival last season and during the latter’s absence due to illness, perhaps the players themselves were left seriously unimpressed by his tactics and general approach.
Now that one questions how a ‘new manager bounce’ in some senses was not on show at the club, this revelation seemingly explains it all.
