The 26-year-old is rumoured to be on Real Madrid’s radar. The latest transfer report suggests they would have to pay more for him than PSG paid for Neymar.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly slapped a huge price tag on midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has been superb for Spurs since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2013, scoring 58 goals and registering 75 assists in 241 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Eriksen has also excelled for Denmark, winning 85 caps with a return of 25 goals and 19 assists, and taking part in three major international tournaments.

Given his form for club and country, the playmaker has often been linked with a departure from north London, but prior rumours have never materialised.

However, Eriksen’s Spurs contract has just 18 months left to run, and the club is yet to reach an agreement with the Dane amid reports of Real Madrid monitoring the situation.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Los Blancos have been in contact with Tottenham to get a quote for Eriksen, to which chairman Daniel Levy supposedly gave a price of 250million Euros (around £220million).

Real would basically have to break the world transfer record in order to get their hands on Eriksen given the incumbent, Brazil forward Neymar, set Paris Saint-Germain back around £198million in the summer of 2017.

The Marca report goes on to add that the La Liga giants have their doubts about Eriksen, referring to comments purportedly made by Denmark boss Age Hareide to local television station Canal 9 in October (reprinted by Danish outlet BT) claiming that the player may have a “chronic” stomach injury.

It seems somewhat unrealistic that a club would pay a world record fee for a player they are reportedly not completely sure about, but with Eriksen going into the final year of his contract next season, many Spurs fans will be anxiously monitoring all speculation in a bit to get a clearer picture of what the future may be for one of their key players.
