Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering stepping up their pursuit of Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.
According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham are now planning to step up their pursuit of Max Meyer with the attacking midfielder’s future at Schalke looking to be up in the air.
The Mirror reports that Meyer is entering the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga side, and he has suggested that he is not happy in his current situation – though he has not ruled out signing a new contract yet either.
Spurs are ready however, to hand the 21-year-old a way out, with the Mirror reporting that they are ready to take their attempts to bring the youngster to the Premier League to another level.
Meyer is no stranger to Tottenham by any means, with the Mirror suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino’s men made an approach for the Germany international last summer only to have their bid rejected by his current side as they held out for £30 million – which is a figure they will surely struggle to get this time around given his contract situation.
Though Meyer’s form during the most recent campaign left plenty to be desired, he is clearly young enough to make considerable improvements and has shown in the past that he can be fairly lethal.
In 2015/16 – the campaign before Tottenham’s approach – Meyer scored five times and contributed six assists for his side in the top flight, and Pochettino may be hoping that bringing him to Spurs may help him find that form on a more regular basis.
