According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham are set to miss out on the signing of Memphis Depay next week as Barcelona finalise a deal.
What’s the story?
Well, FC Inter News recently claimed that Tottenham were battling Inter Milan and Barcelona for the 27-year-old free agent’s signature.
Now, however, Mundo Deportivo believe that Barcelona are confident of announcing Depay’s arrival as soon as next week.
Once the 64-cap Netherlands international heard Ronald Koeman was staying, he instructed his representatives to sort out a move to Spain.
Depay wanted a three-year contract, which Barcelona also wanted, and a deal looks to be developing nicely with an announcement expected in days.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, this means they’re very likely to miss out on one of the best opportunities of the window.
Depay for free would’ve been a steal

If Tottenham managed to sign Depay for nothing, it would’ve been one of the bargains of the summer.
The former Manchester United attacker scored 22 goals in 40 appearances this season, while also providing 12 assists.
Throughout his career, the Dutchman has scored an impressive 145 goals in 376 games, so his time at Lyon hasn’t just been a purple patch.

Depay also wore the captain’s armband for Lyon, so he’s clearly a player who boasts strong leadership qualities.
Furthermore, at 27, he is right in the midst of his best years, which Spurs now look likely to miss out on.
With Tottenham yet to find a replacement for José Mourinho, a late intervention for Depay’s services seems very unlikely, in our view.
