According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are now on the verge of signing Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu in a deal worth £15million plus add-ons.
It’s stated that Tottenham are closing in on Tomiyasu, with the two clubs now ‘finalising the terms of the deal’.
Tottenham are expected to pay £15million plus add-ons to bring Tomiyasu to North London after weeks of negotiations.
Manchester United thought about moving for Tomiyasu, but Tottenham have been his priority – even with Arsenal also believed to be in the race.
Arsenal were in talks to sign Tomiyasu last week according to Gianluca Di Marzio, but it’s Tottenham who now look set to sign the defender.
Tomiyasu will become Fabio Paratici’s first signing as Tottenham director of football, utilising his knowledge of the Italian market to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s back line.
Another centre back signing is likely, especially with Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld likely to go, and Paratici is looking for other defenders to join Tomiyasu in North London.

Tomiyasu, 22, has starred for Bologna since his 2019 move from Sint-Truiden, featuring at centre back or right back under Sinisa Mihajlovic.
Branded a ‘warrior’ by teammate Mitchell Dijks, Tomiyasu is quick, versatile and comfortable on the ball, whilst still has real potential at just 22.
He will be playing for Japan at the Olympic Games this summer, but Tottenham look to have secured his signature before he even has a chance to play in that tournament.
