Tottenham Hotspur reportedly scouted Italy Under-21’s in action against Poland last week.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham Hotspur sent a scout to watch Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi in action for Italy Under-21’s against Poland Under-21’s on Thursday.

Italy’s first team picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over Albania on Friday evening, and 24 hours earlier, the Azzurri’s next generation were in action against Poland.

Luigi Di Biagio’s men travelled over to Krakow for a friendly game on Thursday, with goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Marco Benassi, either side of Dawid Kownacki’s equaliser, handing Italy the 2-1 win.

Many clubs use the international break to scout potential transfer targets, and it seems that Tottenham used Italy Under-21’s trip to Poland to watch one attacker in particular.

Tutto Mercato Web claim that Tottenham sent a scout to the MTP Stadium in order to watch Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi, who has been linked with Spurs for some time now.

Berardi, 22, has been on the books with Sassuolo since the age of 16 following a move from Cosenza, and he became a star in Italy having hit 31 goals and 16 assists during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 Serie A seasons.

Last term, the winger notched seven goals and six assists, whilst this season – which was hampered by injury earlier in the year – has seen Berardi notch seven goals and four assists in 17 appearances.

Primarily a right-sided winger who loves to cut inside and shoot on his left foot, Berardi could be a replacement for Erik Lamela, whose Tottenham future is unclear having been out of action since October.

Thursday’s scouting mission suggests Tottenham are very much interested in Berardi, but with Italian clubs keen to raid Sassuolo for his signature, Spurs may have to move quickly to land him this summer, with Sassuolo claiming he will cost €40million (£35million), as reported by Calcio Mercato.
