According to Marca, Tottenham made an offer for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio over the summer, while Arsenal were also interested.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Spurs and AC Milan both made moves for the 26-cap Spain international over the summer.

However, Asensio rejected both clubs, as he’s determined to win Carlo Ancelotti’s trust and rediscover his form of old at Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old burst onto the scene back in the 2016/17 season, scoring in the Champions League quarter-final win over Bayern Munich.

Asensio also netted against Juventus in the final.

Sadly, he has failed to kick on, and scored just seven goals last season.

Marca believe it was a ‘great objective’ of Tottenham’s to sign the attacker during the summer.

Elsewhere, Calciomercato believed Arsenal were positioning themselves to sign Asensio.

What would Tottenham and Arsenal get in Marco Asensio?

At first glance, the north Londoners would be getting a talented, but not exactly prolific, attacker with a gem of a left foot.

Zinedine Zidane said it was as good as Lionel Messi’s.

However, they could also be getting the next Mohamed Salah, according to Liverpool’s scouts.

As revealed by El Gol Digital, Liverpool’s recruitment team have spotted signs in Asensio’s game that he could go on to be a deadly goalscorer.

If true, then that’s very interesting. Asensio has never been a regular goalscorer, netting just 37 goals in 196 appearances for Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool’s recruitment has been excellent in recent times, so perhaps they’re onto something.

Keep an eye on Asensio’s future. Another disappointing campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he could potentially look for a fresh start.
