Could Tottenham Hotspur beat Barcelona to the Schalke player?

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich have dropped out of the race to sign Leon Goretzka but Tottenham Hotspur remain a problem for fellow suitors Barcelona.
Spurs are said to be keen on the 22-year-old and – while he is said to prefer a move to La Liga – the presence of Tottenham in the running could make for an intriguing January transfer window.

Spurs’ recent victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League will have forced the great and the good of the game to sit up and take notice, and Goretzka will know his future could be well served moving to North London.
It is never easy to beat a team like Barcelona to the punch when it comes to transfers. However, the fact that the latest report suggests Tottenham have no intention of giving up means this one could go down to the wire.

Barcelona have money to spend and are keen for additional reinforcements after falling short over the summer. However if Tottenham remain in the Champions League and can narrow the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City, the Catalan giants would be right to worry about Spurs’ ongoing interest.
Goretzka has racked up 128 appearances for Schalke to date, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in the process, and he is widely tipped to be a huge star of the future.
