The Tottenham academy graduate is being tipped to start for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs this coming Premier League season.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters is believed to have been sought after by fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion but Spurs are rejecting all interest, according to The Sun.
The report says the Tottenham academy graduate is set to start the 2019-20 season as the club’s only available right-back, given Kieran Trippier has left for Atletico Madrid and Juan Foyth is suspended for the first two games of the season.
In addition, Serge Aurier has seen his pre-season delayed due to his action for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, and the report seems to hint that Mauricio Pochettino will not look to sign a new player in that position for the time being.
Palace and Brighton are reported to have been interested in a loan move for Walker-Peters – contracted to Tottenham until 2023 on £20,000 per week according to Spotrac – while Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have also been credited with an interest, with plenty of English talent having headed to Germany in recent years.
Walker-Peters has come through the academy ranks at the North London club and made his full debut at the start of the 2017-18 season, helping his team to a 2-0 away victory against Newcastle United.
Last term, the 22-year-old made 10 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, including a start in the Champions League group stage match against Barcelona in which he played for just over an hour (Transfermarkt).
Walker-Peters found himself behind Trippier and Aurier in the right-back pecking order last season, but in conversation with the official Spurs site, he said he is targeting more minutes in 2019-20 – and if the report is true, he could be getting off to the ideal start in terms of his goals.
