Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claim that Tottenham have rejected an offer from Eredivisie champions Ajax for Steven Bergwijn. However, the report claims a five-year deal with Ajax is nothing short of a ‘formality’.
Bergwijn, 24, has been strongly linked with a return to his home country this season – and Ajax have shown the most interest. He has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski at Tottenham.

The 18-time Netherlands international has started only eight of his 32 appearances for Spurs in 2021-22. He still has three years on the contract he signed at Tottenham, when lured to North London by Jose Mourinho.
Spurs have received an offer from Ajax, but the report from De Telegraaf claim that they have rejected said offer. But a five-year at Ajax is a formality, and a move simply depends on Tottenham and Ajax agreeing a fee.

Spurs spent £27million to sign Bergwijn in January 2020. The winger has clocked up just 83 appearances for Tottenham in two and a half years, only 38 of which have come from the off. Bergwijn has scored eight goals.
That is, despite early promise and a goal on his debut against Manchester City. So, what is a fair price? Well, Spurs will want to get as much back of the £27million they spent on him – but they will have to accept a loss.
If they receive a fee in the region of £15million to £20million, then it makes sense for all parties to get a deal done.
