Porto may need to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Diogo Costa this summer as they attempt to raise funds to solve financial difficulties.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Porto are facing some money problems.

It’s stated that boss Sergio Conceicao is concerned about the direction of the club and wants major signings to compete with Benfica.

Yet in order to do that, Porto need to make big sales and reinvest, as they usually do.

That means goalkeeper Diogo Costa could be flogged with Tottenham among the clubs interested.

Others like Marko Grujic and Evanilson are attracting interest but it’s Costa who would rake in the most cash.

The goalkeeper recently signed a new deal which includes a release clause worth around £65m.

News of Porto’s financial problems mean interested clubs will surely attempt to bring that fee down though with a bargain deal possible.

Tottenham face a battle for Diogo Costa

It’s stated that Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are all interested in signing Costa this summer.

Tottenham do need to find their heir to Hugo Lloris as he heads towards 11 years at the club.

Costa would fit the bill at just 23 and could go on a run just like Lloris, serving as Tottenham’s goalkeeper for more than a decade.

Former Porto goalkeeper Vitor Baia claims that Costa is the ‘best in the world’ already, which should excite Tottenham fans.

The problem is that Chelsea and United are interested too.

Chelsea don’t seem completely convinced by either Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy, so splashing the cash on Costa could be a great idea.

As for United, David De Gea’s future remains unclear and the Red Devils could go for Costa as his long-term successor.

Tottenham won’t find this transfer race easy, even if Porto’s financial situation could help them.
