Spurs have been continually linked with the French midfielder.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato claimed Tottenham linked star Adrien Rabiot is set to reject a new contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Daily Mirror reported four weeks ago that Tottenham were preparing a bid to sign the 23-year-old in the January transfer window, with Spurs able to sign the France international on a pre-contract agreement from January 1.

That would see Spurs land Rabiot for nothing, but have to wait until the summer until he joined. However, they could indeed prepare a transfer fee for the midfielder to sign him in January.

CalcioMercato claimed Rabiot has been offered a new £140,000-a-week deal by Thomas Tuchel’s side – but he is set to reject the offer.

It is believed that Rabiot wants to play football outside of France, while he has come under increasing pressure over his form in the holding midfield role – which he feels is unjust.

That will come as a potential boost for Tottenham who have been admirers of Rabiot for quite some time, with Mauricio Pochettino looking to find a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.

However, Spurs will face competition from Italy for Rabiot’s signature, as Serie A champions Juventus and AC Milan are keen on landing the 6ft 2in midfielder.

There are also doubts as to whether Spurs would be able to afford his salary demands, and he would have to drop his expectations if they are the club he wants to join.
