Report: Tottenham put coach with just four career wins on standby to take pre-season training

According to the Express, Tottenham have put Ryan Mason on standby to take pre-season training in case a new manager hasn’t been found by then.

What’s the story?

Well, it’s been over two months since Daniel Levy sacked José Mourinho, and Tottenham still haven’t found his replacement.

As a result, Spurs have asked Mason to be ready if needed to take pre-season training, which starts on July 5th.

If Mason is required, his team – Chris Powell and Nigel Gibbs as interim assistants, Michel Form as interim goalkeeping coach, and Ledley King as first team assistant – will accompany him to Hotspur Way.

The 30-year-old took over from Mourinho as interim last season, overseeing seven games in the dugout.

Mason won four of those, while losing the other three.

What will Tottenham’s players think?

In our view, Tottenham’s players would not have expected to be coming back for pre-season with the club still managerless.

Some probably waved Mason off for their holidays, without the smallest inclination that he’d be the one taking pre-season training.

It would be a sad state of affairs if this did happen.

Should Mason have to take pre-season training – a vital period for a new manager to teach his tactics – it would be embarrassing for Levy.

According to reports, it’s now down to Nuno Espirito Santo or Graham Potter for the vacancy.

Whoever Levy and Fabio Paratici decide on, they just need to do it quickly.

Supporters are surely becoming bored of this whole saga, while we can’t imagine the players are too impressed by it all either.
