Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly pulled out of a move for Sunderland’s Joel Asoro.
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur decided to pull the plug on a deal for Joel Asoro after the striker’s agent put forward excessive wage demands.
Spurs are one the few Premier League clubs yet to make a new signing this summer, and fans are growing agitated at the lack of progress being made in the transfer market.
Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for new faces before the transfer deadline next month, and another striker should be a priority given questions over the future of Fernando Llorente.
Now, The Sun report that Tottenham had agreed a deal to sign Sunderland striker Joel Asoro, but pulled out of the move over demands made by the youngster’s agent.
It’s stated that the agent wanted wages that Tottenham deemed excessive for Asoro, and despite agreeing a fee believed to be in the region of just £2.5million, Spurs cancelled the move.
On Saturday, Asoro was on the move, as Championship side Swansea City confirmed that the Swede has made a bargain move to the Liberty Stadium, with League One side Sunderland forced to sell to raise funds.
Asoro, 19, joined Sunderland from Brommapojkarna in 2015, and has scored just three goals in 33 first-team appearances for the Black Cats, but has shown real potential during his time at the Stadium of Light.
The pacey forward looks set for a bright future, and Tottenham will hope that cancelling the deal – if reports are to be believed – doesn’t backfire on them in the years to come.
