Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Fiorentina midfielder and are said to be planning a move.

According to a report from Italian website Viola News, Tottenham Hotspur are planning to bid £15.8million for Matias Vecino despite the player currently having a £21.1million release clause.

Although Spurs are set to make a low-ball offer, the report suggests Vecino’s current club Fiorentina may still accept it.

That said, with the player’s release clause set to expire in mid-August, it will be interesting to see if the Serie A side take an acceptable offer in the interim or are forced to accept a lower bid as they approach the final few weeks of the summer transfer window. In fact the latter prospect may be exactly what Tottenham are counting on.

Vecino

Vecino is a 21-year-old central midfielder who has appeared 85 times for Fiorentina to date, scoring six goals and providing eight assists in the process.

He has 13 caps for Uruguay and could be a worthy addition to a Tottenham side looking to bring some silverware back to the club next season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are readying themselves for an assault on four competitions and they will be hoping to not only build on their domestic progress but also reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Spurs have been linked with a whole host of players already this summer and many could be back-up options if some of their first-team stars are ultimately tempted away by big-money deals elsewhere.

That said, Tottenham also need strength in depth if they want to be competing in finals and going one better than their second-placed league finish earlier this year, and given his age and ability, Vecino would be a worthy addition…for the right price.
