Report: Tottenham prepared to sell Mousa Dembele this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly bracing themselves to potentially lose Mousa Dembele at the end of the season.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham are considering the possibility of selling Mousa Dembele at the end of the season with his future with the club still not resolved.

Dembele has been one of the main stars of the Spurs side that have made huge strides of progress in recent years, ensuring that the team often have the perfect balance with his ability to connect defence and attack.

However, his days with the club could be numbered. The Mirror reports that Dembele is currently putting off contract talks until after the World Cup and that is leaving Spurs considering all possibilities as his deal edges towards its final year.

One of those possibilities is to sell, with the Mirror reporting that Pochettino is considering potential replacements with Barcelona’s Andre Gomes and Bryan Cristante of Atalanta on the club’s radar.

Should Spurs fans fear Dembele’s exit?

The Mirror’s report makes it clear that Tottenham will not actively look to push the former Fulham star out the door, but the fact that they are bracing themselves for a potential exit is a cause for concern.

Losing Dembele – who earns around £80,000 a week, according to The Telegraph – would be a huge blow given that he remains such an important part of the side, and Pochettino would surely prefer to have a significant amount of time to find his replacement as filling the void that he will eventually leave behind will be a huge ask for Spurs. But the report certainly does hint that there is a chance that the moment to find his replacement could come a lot sooner than many Tottenham fans would have hoped.
