According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are now willing to send Lucas Moura to Napoli in a deal for Arkadiusz Milik.
It’s claimed that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wanted to sign Moura last summer, and is a big admirer of the Brazilian attacker.
Mauricio Pochettino allegedly blocked Napoli from signing Moura in 2019, but Jose Mourinho is now prepared to let him leave for that move to Italy.
The deal would though involve Napoli striker Milik heading in the opposite direction, with Spurs keen to add the Pole as competition for Harry Kane. Spurs even see him as a player who can step in should Kane leave.
Intriguingly, Mourinho believes that Milik and Kane could actually play together, meaning he may be considering a tactical switch to playing two up front.
He did that at Porto and Inter Milan in the past, operating with a diamond in midfield. Allowing a winger to leave in Moura whilst bringing in another centre forward would lend itself towards that setup.
It’s stated that Milik will of course have the final say on the move, but an agreement between Napoli and Tottenham is described as being ‘likely’ with Spurs willing to give up Moura.
Milik, 26, has hit 13 goals in 28 games this season, and may be eyeing a move away with just a year left on his deal. Moura hasn’t really impressed this season, and after another poor showing on Monday night, fans probably wouldn’t be too sad to see him go.
A deal to sign Milik would see Spurs finally sign the striker. Back in 2015, The Mirror reported that Milik had a trial with Tottenham at the age of 16, and they were close to a £100,000 deal before deciding against the move.
Milik is now worth much, much more, and Spurs are seemingly having to give up Moura to get him in, some years after deciding not to sign him.
