According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur intend to make defender Toby Alderweireld one of their highest-paid players in order to fend off interest from Inter Milan.
Spurs have been working tirelessly to keep key players at White Hart Lane, with the likes of Kyle Walker, Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane all penning new contracts.
That continuity has helped Tottenham become a title contender once again, and they can close the gap to Chelsea back to four points again with a win over Crystal Palace this evening.
Some contracts still have to be sorted though, with defender Toby Alderweireld one of the most important deals on chairman Daniel Levy’s table.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld
Alderweireld, 28, has established himself as arguably the Premier League’s top centre back since joining Tottenham from Atletico Madrid in 2015, having starred during a season-long loan spell with Southampton.
The Belgian has struck up an almost telepathic partnership with international and former Ajax team-mate Jan Vertonghen, and his presence has made Tottenham into one of the Premier League’s top defences having previously been so brittle.

Now, The Mirror report that Tottenham are now prepared to make Alderweireld one of their highest-paid players in order to keep him at White Hart Lane and out of the clutches of Serie A giants Inter Milan, who want to sign him this summer.
It’s claimed that Tottenham’s huge offer could put Alderweireld on par with Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane in Spurs’ highest earners, whilst also eradicating a £25m release clause that can become active in 2019.
