Report: Tottenham plot £40m bid for Bournemouth's Nathan Ake

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the favourites to sign Nathan Ake this summer if he does end up moving on.

According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham are ready to make a £40 million bid for Nathan Ake, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side the current favourites to win the race to sign the Bournemouth defender.

The Sun reports that Spurs are preparing for Toby Alderweireld’s potential departure this summer with the Belgian available for just £25 million due to a release clause in his contract.

And it appears that Ake is the man that they want to replace Alderweireld should he leave. The Sun suggests that the Cherries are braced for a £40 million offer from their Premier League rivals for the Dutchman, with Alderweireld-admirers Manchester United also in the running.

Ake has been an excellent signing for Eddie Howe’s men, establishing himself as a key player following an initial loan and subsequent £20 million move to the Vitality Stadium.

The 24-year-old started all 38 games in the top flight this past season, and showed his ability at both ends of the pitch by scoring four goals for Bournemouth.

Ake appears to have a lot of potential. Nevertheless, some may still deem it to be a real gamble for Spurs to spend £40 million on the Netherlands international, especially as he may be tasked with being the man to fill Alderweireld’s shoes should both men secure moves this summer.
