According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur players weren’t sure about Nuno Espirito Santo – but are now boosted by his apparent positivity.
Tottenham’s frankly ridiculous manager search is finally over having appointed Nuno last week.
The Portuguese boss hasn’t been out of work long having only left Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season, but arrives at Tottenham after a number of other candidates missed out.
It’s fair to say that Tottenham fans aren’t entirely convinced just yet, and it seems that Tottenham’s players were in a similar boat.
The Athletic claim that the Tottenham squad were ‘wary’ of Nuno, seemingly fearing that he would be too similar to Jose Mourinho.
Nuno played under Mourinho at Porto and has been compared to him in some ways, with Nuno’s style of play at Wolves often reactive and playing on the counter attack.
However, it’s now claimed that the Tottenham players are now feeling encouraged after hearing how positive Nuno has been in his early days at Spurs.
Spurs players allegedly want to ‘knuckle down’ and impress Nuno quickly, with his positivity in his introductory interview seemingly working wonders.
Results and style of play will be key here, and Nuno will hope to keep the Tottenham players on his side having seen things so south for his former boss Mourinho.
Nuno does deserve a chance to show that he can adapt to a more adventurous style of play, and it looks like the Tottenham players are willing to do just that; let’s hope the fans do too.
