Daniel Levy has been left shocked by Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, according to the Daily Mail.

Tottenham have been trying to get Dier to sign a new long-term contract with the club for weeks now, with Jose Mourinho very keen to tie the England international down.

Dier is also said to be keen to stay with Tottenham, as he gets on with Mourinho so well.

It was reported by the Mail in March that Dier was having doubts over his Tottenham future, but they seem to have subsided now, and that is said to be because of Mourinho’s influence and his good relationship with the Spurs boss.

The defender may have priced himself out of a new deal for now though, as he wants a sizeable rise on his current £60,000-a-week salary and Tottenham are apparently stunned by his demands.

Spurs apparently feel that Dier is asking for too much money, considering the current financial climate, and hope that he reduces his demands.

There is reportedly still optimism that a deal can be done, but Dier is yet to commit his future to the North London side.

That has to be a concern for Tottenham, as Dier has only a year left on his current deal.

Spurs will not want to lose the 26-year-old on a free transfer, especially as he has been crucial to Mourinho’s plans so far.

The former Sporting Lisbon man seems to have become Tottenham’s first choice central defender, and has played frequently since Mourinho arrived at the club.
