Tottenham are reportedly planning to sell striker Vincent Janssen this summer.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are planning to sell striker Vincent Janssen at the end of the season after less than a year at White Hart Lane.

Spurs moved to land Janssen last summer in a big-money deal worth £17million (The Guardian), after the Dutch international had hit 31 goals in 49 games for Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.

The former Feyenoord international was brought in as both cover and competition for leading striker Harry Kane, but he has so far failed to live up to his price tag.

Janssen, 22, has scored just five goals in all competitions for Spurs, and four of those were penalties, with his first goal from open play coming earlier this month in an FA Cup tie against League One side Millwall.

With just five Premier League starts to his name this season – notable due to two injury blows for Kane – Janssen has struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane, and reports suggest that he could be heading for the exit this summer.

The Mirror claim that Tottenham are now planning to sell Janssen at the end of the season, cutting their losses on the striker before they’ve even finished paying AZ for his signature.

It’s suggested that Janssen’s standing is still high in his native Netherlands, and Spurs will attempt to sell him to a Dutch club as a result, with Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven the only clubs that seem likely to have a chance of signing him.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino may be looking to land a striker better suited to the Premier League, such as Burnley’s Andre Gray, and selling Janssen could help fund such a move this summer.

However, giving up on Janssen so soon seems impatient from Spurs, who should know that some players take time to settle in the Premier League – and Janssen will be hoping to save his Spurs career in the final weeks of the season, with Kane currently out through injury.
