Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an offer of £16 million for Brazil midfielder Gerson though, according to Goal, Flamengo have no interest in selling a prized asset for that amount.
The reigning Copa Libertadores champions have already lost one key player to north London since the turn of the year.
But Jose Mourinho’s Spurs have a long way to go if they are to snap up an exciting and dynamic South American, a matter of months after Pablo Mari joined local rivals Arsenal.
Goal claims that Tottenham will offer £16 million for Gerson. But Flamengo feel that a man who struggled during a brief spell in Europe with Roma is worth far more after an exceptional season back home in his native Brazil.
Just to strengthen their hand, Flamengo have managed to tie down enigmatic coach Jorge Jesus to a new one-year deal, putting an end to speculation that their double-winning manager would be heading for the exit.
And just in case you were wondering if there was any truth behind these rumours, Gerson’s own father pretty much confirmed Tottenham’s interest during a recent conversation with Yahoo Sports.

“Everyone you here is true,” he said when asked about links with not only the 2019 Champions League finalists but also Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Gerson still found the time to produce five goals and eight assists for Flamengo and Fiorentina during 2019.
With those sort of statistics, he feels like an upgrade on Moussa Sissoko, a player Mourinho does not exactly seem enamoured by in the centre of midfield.
