There may still be a Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur next season with the Standard reporting that teenage midfielder Maurizio has been offered a new contract by the North London giants.
A 19-year-old schemer has certainly put any accusations of nepotism behind him during an impressive 2019/20 campaign at U18 and U23 level.
The son of former manager Mauricio, life at Spurs must have felt a little awkward for Pochettino Jr when his dad was handed his P45 in the autumn after a disastrous start to the Premier League season.
But while Jose Mourinho often lets himself down in the man management department, the often glowering gaffer has gone out of his way to ensure that one of Tottenham’s most talented youngster is still comfortable in the English capital.
“I spoke to his son, in our academy,” Mourinho told Football London after taking over.
“I told the players here to tell him he’s free to come here whenever, to have a meal with the players, if he wants me here or not that’s fine.”
If Pochettino Jr continues to develop at such an impressive rate, however, it will be his talent and potential rather than his family ties which could see him share a canteen with Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and co.
The Standard reports that the former Southampton starlet has been offered the chance to extend a contract which still has another two years left to run.
Pochettino is yet to make his first-team debut in Spurs colours but that could soon change with Mourinho unlikely to spend big on new signings this summer.
