Tottenham Hotspur have planned contract talks with Harry Kane for next summer, but Manchester United are interested in luring him away.
Kane is one of the most lethal strikers in the world at the moment, with 15 goals coming in 13 games for club and country this season, and nine in his last five games in all competitions.
Unsurprisingly, some of the biggest spenders in the world appear to be taking a keen look at the 24-year-old, and The Sun suggests that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to Old Trafford and pair him with Romelu Lukaku.
Tottenham are determined to hold onto Kane and plan to reject any bids that come in for the academy graduate, but The Sun suggests that United plan to test Spurs’ resolve by offering £170 million for the striker.
However, Tottenham are planning to try and make their own statement regarding Kane’s future, with The Sun adding that Spurs hope to open talks with the Englishman next summer about agreeing a new contract worth £150,000 a week.
With Tottenham determined to hold onto Kane, and Kane seemingly happy where he is, it could certainly be argued that United are hoping that at the very least, their offer will unsettle the forward on some level and perhaps lay the groundwork for a future move.
If Tottenham do not realise their current potential, Kane may start to become slightly disillusioned and such an eye-watering bid from a rival may leave him considering his options.
However, if Daniel Levy manages to get their star man to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract when such bids are being mooted, then that would be a major statement from Kane regarding how little interest he has in considering other options on the table.
