The Tottenham Hotspur pair are allegedly out of contention for the club’s upcoming European matches.

According to the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur have opted not to name either Erik Lamela or Vincent Janssen in their Champions League squad this season due to homegrown restrictions.
Spurs are preparing to face Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Apoel Nicossia in a group they will do extremely well to get out of. However Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had to make some hard choices regarding his 21-man squad and the two internationals appear to have paid the price.

Lamela has been injured for quite some time and, as his recovery continues, it is unsurprising that he will not feature in the group stage of the illustrious competition.
The omission of Janssen is slightly more surprising, even with the deadline day arrival of Fernando Llorente, with Tottenham needing as many goal-scorers as possible as they bid to finish ahead of either Dortmund or Real after all six matches have been played.

As a result of Lamela’s omission, the work out wide will need to be done by Tottenham’s full-backs and South Korea international Heung-min Son, and the pressure will be on Llorente and Harry Kane to fill their boots when it really matters.
Tottenham had a mixed transfer window, ultimately completing some fine business but still coming up short in a couple of key areas, most notably on the wing.
