Italian outlet CalcioMercato. It claim that Tottenham are now offering Roma a player-plus-cash bid for Nicolo Zaniolo in the form of money and Tanguy Ndombele – as well as handing Zaniolo a deal worth £81,000 a week.

Zaniolo, 23, is top priority for Tottenham as we enter the last three weeks of the transfer window. The Italy international is on the radar at Spurs for last season’s form, and his attacking versatility which he has showed under Jose Mourinho.

Zaniolo had a hand in 17 goals last season after two knee injuries. He scored the winner in the Europa Conference League final. The attacker can play on either flank, as a 10 or as a striker – partnering Tammy Abraham at times.

Tottenham have had a straight-cash offer of £46million rejected. Now, they are looking to meet Roma’s requirements with Ndombele included. Mourinho is keen on Ndombele, but Roma are said to have turned down the offer.

It might be due to Ndombele’s enormous Tottenham wages, on a similar level to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Something Roma would struggle to afford. But Roma and Tiago Pinto are open to a sale of Zaniolo, if the price is right.

A move that would satisfy Roma if the cash amount in the deal is fair. That and, if Spurs can help with Ndombele’s wages. Of course, the Frenchman will have to take a pay cut – but Roma may need Spurs to help with his wages, too.

It means that Spurs would be paying through the nose for Zaniolo. A big £81,000 offer in wages, cash alongside making a loss on Ndombele, and then continually paying a portion of Ndombele’s wages.

Talks are continuing between Tottenham and Ndombele to pursue the right deal for both clubs. But it looks as if Roma will only accept a straight-cash offer which means they will have to go north of their original £46million bid.
