According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are interested in signing River Plate forward Julian Alvarez, who is also on Aston Villa’s radar.
What’s the story?
Well, the 21-year-old has been delivering some incredible performances for the Argentine giants, which have alerted Spurs and the Villans.
Calciomercato believe Tottenham and Aston Villa are in the ‘front row’ to sign Alvarez, along with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla.
The Italian news outlet add that he has a €25m (£21.3m) release clause in his contract at River Plate, which is affordable for Premier League clubs.
In 11 appearances this season, Alvarez has scored seven goals while also providing four assists for his teammates.
To be averaging a goal involvement per game so far this term is fantastic, to say the least.
Calciomercato add that AC Milan are closely tracking Alvarez as well.
Could Aston Villa have a headstart on Tottenham?

Interestingly, Dean Smith’s side tried to sign the South American attacker over the summer.
It was ESPN who revealed that Alvarez rejected a move to Orlando City, as he was aware that Aston Villa were talking to his agent.
Eventually – to state the obvious – the forward stayed at River Plate, although Aston Villa’s efforts haven’t just vanished.
The Villans have initiated contact, and have already made Alvarez feel wanted.

In our view, a desire to keep the Villans interested may be behind the striker’s exquisite form so far this season.
Having said that, Tottenham arguably have greater pulling power, with their £1bn stadium and Champions League aspirations.
Keep an eye on this saga, as Alvarez could be on the move soon.
