Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both looking into the possibility of signing RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku this summer, according to Foot Mercato,
The 23-year-old has notched seven goals and eight assists in 32 games across all competitions this season, whilst racking up 53 key passes in the Bundesliga; fourth best in the league.
It’s now claimed that Nkunku is attracting major interest ahead of the summer window, and a move to England currently looks like being a real possibility.
Manchester United are interested as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of Nkunku, whilst Arsenal and Tottenham are believed to have shown an interest too.
Arsenal have wanted Nkunku since the Unai Emery era, but couldn’t lure him from Paris Saint-Germain – something that the Gunners may now regret.
Bild claim that Nkunku has a €40million (£34million) release clause in his Leipzig contract, meaning either North London side would have to pay big money to land the Frenchman.
What’s interesting is that Spurs could have a not-so-secret weapon here, and that’s in the form of Nkunku’s agent Pini Zahavi – the man who brokered Jose Mourinho’s move to Tottenham in 2019.
Zahavi represents Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg too, with the Dane becoming a Spurs favourite since joining from Southampton last summer, so Spurs may look to use their links to Zahavi once again to beat Arsenal to Nkunku.
Whilst Spurs have been heavily linked with Marcel Sabitzer, it could end up being teammate Nkunku that ends up at Tottenham instead – but Arsenal will have a big say in the race yet.
