Tottenham Hotspur are now set to hold talks with Sporting boss Ruben Amorim as they look to tempt him to North London.

That is according to Portuguese newspaper Record, who claim that Spurs are planning a meeting with Amorim.

It’s stated that, when the season ends, Tottenham will speak to Amorim about a move to the Premier League.

The report claims that Amorim always ‘reserves a window’ to go and hear potential offers alongside agent Raul Costa.

Amorim has a release clause of €20million (£17.5million) for foreign clubs and he may now go and listen to what Spurs have to say.

Amorim will allegedly think hard about his future at Sporting having previously committed his future to the club in the face of interest.

This has been Amorim’s trickiest season with Sporting and he may yet decide to move on.

That may be what Tottenham are hoping, as they are understood to have Amorim on a ‘restricted list’ of candidates for their managerial job.

Ruben Amorim was linked with Chelsea

Amorim, 38, has carved out a reputation as one of the top young coaches in football.

The former Benfica midfielder guided Sporting to the league title in 2021 and has always played attractive football.

Losing Joao Palhinha and Matheus Nunes was a huge blow last summer though and getting Sporting back on track has been hard.

Amorim did though take Sporting into the Europa League quarter-finals, dumping Arsenal out at the Emirates Stadium.

Amorim’s fine work in Lisbon has resulted in interest from other clubs – including Chelsea.

The Athletic claimed in April that Chelsea did hold exploratory talks with Sporting boss Amorim.

However, it was suggested that Amorim wasn’t heading to Stamford Bridge and was happy at Sporting.

Tottenham may now try to change his mind but that may be difficult.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola suggested at the end of March that Amorim wasn’t keen on working with Daniel Levy and would snub Tottenham.

Face-to-face talks could change things though and Tottenham will hope to sit down with Amorim within in a matter of weeks.
