The Mirror claim Tottenham are now at the ‘front of the queue’ for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer, as Chelsea close in on a move for Napoli stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly – the player is set to arrive in London.
Kounde, 23, has been sensational for Sevilla since joining the club in 2019 from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. Considered one of La Liga’s best defenders, he has often been linked with the Premier League – after 133 games in three years.

The France international is a strong target for Chelsea and Newcastle this summer – but reports say the player wants to go to Barcelona. However, Tottenham could change that, as they throw their hat into the ring for the Frenchman.
With Barcelona spending their limited cash on Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, and Chelsea signing Koulibaly, Tottenham are now favourites. The Mirror say they are at the ‘front of the queue’ to strike a £76million deal.

What a signing Kounde would be for Tottenham. Regardless of the club’s current options, France international Kounde is a different level. In Antonio Conte’s back three, he would likely rival Cristian Romero and Eric Dier in defence.
Spurs have just signed his France teammate Clement Lenglet – a player who played for Sevilla before joining Barcelona. A similar career path, but Tottenham are keen to change that and are at the ‘front of the queue’.
Spurs have the cash after a £150million injection, but have spent the best part of £100million so far. They might need to sell the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele before being able to complete a deal.
Tottenham are likely to go up against Kounde this weekend, when Spurs take on Erik Lamela’s Sevilla in Korea – the second of their two friendlies in Son Heung-min’s native country.
