Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are now facing competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Joao Palhinha, according to The Athletic.

The Athletic have reported that Wolves are interested in signing Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.

The Wanderers are also looking to recruit midfielder Matheus Luiz Nunes from Sporting.

Wolves have identified Palhinha and Nunes as potential replacements for Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, according to the report.

Bruno Lage’s interest in Palhinha means that Tottenham now have to compete with their Premier League rivals for the 2020-21 Portuguese league winner.

Record reported in February 2022 that Tottenham are among the clubs keen on the 26-year-old Portugal international defensive midfielder.

Tottenham v Wolves for Joao Palhinha

In our opinion, Tottenham could appeal more to Palhinha than Wolves despite all the Portuguese connections at the Wanderers.

Spurs are likely to be at least in the Europa League next season, and they also have a world-class manager in Conte.

Leaving Sporting for Tottenham would be a step-up for the Portugal international defensive midfielder.

The Sporting no. 6 has made 18 starts and four substitute appearances in the Portuguese league so far this season, scoring three goals in the process.
