Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer may want to leave, but Spurs are open to the idea of keeping the Austrian.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Tottenham are not ruling out the idea of keeping Kevin Wimmer at the club beyond this summer – despite the Austrian’s current desire to move on.

Wimmer has endured a fairly difficult time since joining Spurs back in 2015, making just 15 Premier League appearances during his two years with the club.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Telegraph reports that wanting first-team football has left Wimmer to crave the chance to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s men during the coming months, and it had appeared that Spurs were ready to let him move on.

The Telegraph reports that they value the 24-year-old at £20 million, but despite the Premier League runners up pursuing Swansea defender Alfie Mawson, they are not necessarily giving up on the idea of holding onto Wimmer.

The news would undoubtedly prove to be a blow for any side that is interested in the former Cologne man, as it would certainly suggest that they will need to meet his asking price before Tottenham consider sanctioning a deal.

Those sides may have been hoping that Wimmer’s desire to leave may have tempted Tottenham to drop the price if no side was willing to pay £20 million, but Spurs being open to the possibility of keeping the centre-back suggests that that price will not drop.
