According to a report from Spanish outlet El Pais, Tottenham are monitoring Maxi Gomez’s form at Celta Vigo as Mauricio Pochettino seemingly considers potential striker targets.

Gomez has been a revelation since joining Celta in 2017, scoring 17 La Liga goals during his first campaign with the Galician side. And he has begun this latest campaign in remarkable form also.

The 22-year-old has scored six times in 10 league games. Celta are in the bottom-half of the table, but only Real Madrid and Barcelona have scored more goals than they have this term.

El Pais reports that both Spurs and Borussia Dortmund are keeping an eye on Gomez, who has spoken in the past, in comments reported by Tifo, about comparisons with countryman Luis Suarez.

He is nicknamed Toro, meaning Bull, due to his tenacious attitude, that is certainly reminiscent of the style that has helped Suarez become one of the most lethal number goalscorers in the world.

Gomez is still developing his game, but it appears that Pochettino may be weighing up whether to try and make him the latest forward option tasked with providing support and competition for Harry Kane.

But with Gomez’s stock rising with almost every performance he puts in, Spurs cannot expect an easy ride to bag the youngster’s signature if they do make a move in a future window.
