According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are continuing their pursuit of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish – but may now be forced to pay around £40million.

Spurs have yet to make a new signing this summer, and fans are growing agitated as the start of the new Premier League season – and the transfer deadline – draw ever closer.

One of Tottenham’s top targets has been Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish, as The Mirror claimed on Tuesday that a £20million deal was close, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to have him board for the club’s trip to the US, which starts today.

It was stated that Daniel Levy has been biding his time making a bid in the hope of clinching Grealish’s signature for around £20million, capitalising on Villa’s well-documented financial woes following their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League.

However, Villa received new investment from Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens on Friday, and the Daily Mail report that Villa are now back in a position to demand their £40million valuation again.

Grealish allegedly wants a move to Tottenham this summer, and Spurs are hoping his desire to make the move helps drive the price down to £20million again, but the deal is seriously dragging on.

The 22-year-old impressed last season with three goals and six assists in 30 Championship games, and with Pochettino keen for him to challenge Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, Tottenham are continuing talks.

Yet it now seems that Levy’s plot to wait for Villa to be forced to accept a low bid appears to be backfiring, as their new investment clinched just 48 hours ago may mean that Spurs are forced to double their bid for the playmaker.
