The Evening Standard claim Tottenham have made Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak a ‘primary target’ and have already opened talks over a potential move for the stopper – but could face competition from Manchester United.

Oblak, 29, has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in European football after shining for Atletico over the years. Joining Atleti as a 21-year-old back in 2014, he has gone on to play 360 times in all competitions for Atleti.

Under Diego Simeone, he has kept a whopping 177 clean sheets – just three shy of one every two games. An incredible record. He has also conceded just 275 goals. It is hard to find a goalkeeper with better goal stats than the Slovenian.

Tottenham are said to be making plans for life without captain Hugo Lloris. Now 35, the World Cup winner has a deal at Spurs until June 2024. But they are looking for a long-term replacement and Oblak has emerged as first choice.

He has a contract at Atletico for another six years – underlining just how important he is to Atleti. But they are willing to discuss a potential sale, out of loyalty. Spurs have made him a ‘primary target’, but Manchester United are also keen.

The 52-time Slovenia international would be a stunning signing for Tottenham. There is every chance Spurs could get him too. But it all depends on Lloris. Does he go after this season – or does he stay right until the end of his contract?

If the latter, than that might allow Manchester United or other clubs to steal in. Another concern is wages. Salary Sport report he earns £253,000 a week. Harry Kane is not said to earn that amount, with Daniel Levy keeping wages low.
