According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about a possible summer deal for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri as they attempt to strike a bargain.

Spurs ended their league campaign with a 5-4 win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, coming out on top after a topsy-turvy encounter at Wembley Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino now heads towards a crucial summer, as Spurs have not only qualified for the Champions League again and will need big signings, but will also move into their new stadium too.

Another creative player could be on Pochettino’s wish list, and TEAMtalk now report that Spurs have made contact with Stoke City over a move for winger Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

Shaqiri, 26, hit eight goals and seven assists for Stoke this season but couldn’t stop the Potters from suffering relegation to the Championship, with a move away almost inevitable for the Swiss international.

The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan ace was a creative force for Stoke, as only six players – Pascal Gross, Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, Christian Eriksen and Kevin De Bruyne – created more chances than Shaqiri this term.

It’s claimed that Shaqiri has a £12million release clause in his contract upon relegation from the Premier League, and Tottenham are now interested in luring him to North London.

With their first move allegedly made by opening talks with Stoke, Spurs may be planning to activate that release clause when the transfer window opens.
