Reports emanating from Italy suggest that Spurs are one of three Premier League clubs to have enquired about the availability of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, according to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport.

The 28-year-old Croatia international has been in good form for the Nerazzurri this term, chipping in with nine goals and four assists in 30 Serie A outings, and his displays have not gone unnoticed on the continent.

Corriere dello Sport claim that Tottenham have joined Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund man, and have made their interest known to the 18-time Serie A champions.

The winger would certainly add depth to Maurcio Pochettino’s squad, but whether he would actually be an upgrade on what the Argentine already has at his disposal is debatable, especially with the €60 million (£50 million) fee being quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Another reason why a move for Perisic would seem unlikely from Tottenham would be Pochettino’s penchant for playing three centre-backs, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose essentially performing the duties of unorthodox wingers.

While a move for the Croatian doesn’t seem to make sense at the moment, the Argentine is renowned for his tactical flexibility, so it cannot be completely ruled out that the Tottenham boss envisages a starting XI that consists of Perisic next season.

The extortionate asking price being quoted would surely put off Spurs, however, as they head into an era where they have huge financial commitments as a result of their new stadium build.
