Tottenham Hotspur have made contact over signing Manchester City’s John Stones, according to the Daily Mail.
Stones has fallen out of favour at City, and with Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake arriving this summer, seems to be a long way down the pecking order.
With Tottenham looking to add to their defence, Jose Mourinho’s side have now tried to negotiate a deal.
Spurs have apparently offered City the opportunity to loan them Stones for a season, with an option to sign him permanent for £20 million.
The England international defender, though, is said to want to stick around and fight for his place at the Etihad Stadium.
Stones, who was once hailed as a ‘complete defender’ by Ivan Cordoba (MEN), is the latest in a long list of defenders to be linked with Spurs, and his name is, perhaps, a surprise.

Stones isn’t a typical Mourinho defender, in the sense that he does take chances in possession.
But his arrival would add competition for places at Tottenham, with Spurs still seemingly looking for a replacement for Jan Vertonghen.
