Report: Tottenham make approach for £23m star after his Italy move collapses

Tottenham Hotspur made a new approach for Arkadiusz Milik this morning with a move to the Premier League looking increasingly likely for Napoli’s centre-forward, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Things can change in the blink of an eye in football and, once it became clear Alvaro Morata was on his way back to Turin on Monday, ripples spread through the transfer market.

The situation is this. Morata to Juventus means Roma’s Edin Dzeko won’t join Andrea Pirlo’s side. That, in turn, leaves Milik in limbo.

The Poland international had been lined up to replace Dzeko at Stadio Olympic but, if the big Bosnian is staying put, Roma won’t need a replacement.

Fortunately for Milik, there are other offers on the table.

And with Tottenham running into brick walls in their own pursuit of a number nine, Morata’s impending return to the Serie A champions could hardly have come at a better time.

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed last week that Spurs were prepared to offer Milik a four-year deal – although their hopes looked slim with the former Ajax youngster expected to complete a £23 million move to Roma.

Now Tottenham can sniff an opportunity and, according to TMW, Jose Mourinho’s side made a new approach this morning as they look to take full advantage of an increasingly uncertain situation.

Milik has refused to extend a contract that expires in 2021 and Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli have already admitted they plan to sell now rather than lose him for free in 12 months’ time.

The rangy Pole has scored 34 times in the past two seasons combined and, interestingly, is capable of playing as a lone frontman or as a number 10 – alongside Harry Kane perhaps?
