Tottenham Hotspur may yet make a move in this month’s transfer window.
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are actually looking to sign an attacking midfielder rather than a striker, even though they are thinking about a move for Sunderland’s Josh Maja.
Spurs have seen Harry Kane go down with ankle ligament damage, meaning he will be out of action for around two months, whilst Son Heung-min is at the Asian Cup with South Korea.
Tottenham’s lack of attacking options has been damaged even further, as Dele Alli suffered a hamstring injury after scoring in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.
Spurs are really short up top now, but Football.London report that Spurs would actually like to sign an attacking midfielder this month despite calls for a striker to be signed.
It’s claimed that another attack minded midfield player, presumably one who can play centrally, up top or out wide, would be wanted, though Hull’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United’s Jack Clarke won’t be signing.
With Kane clearly the top dog in the Spurs attack, it’s hard to convince other out and out strikers to sign. However, if it’s an attacking midfielder who could also play up top, their chances of playing time would be heightened thanks to versatility.
No names are giving, but one name Spurs appear to be keen on is Sunderland’s Maja, as it’s noted that Tottenham may find the striker to good to pass up this month.
The Londoner, 20, has hit 15 goals in League One this season, but it out of contract in the summer, and could be sold this month before his value decreases towards the summer.
A striker seemingly isn’t a top priority, but Maja could be a bargain, and that may tempt Spurs into the market, even if he isn’t ready to play Premier League football just yet.
