Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is reportedly skipping rest days at Sampdoria in order to be fit for the Serie A side’s clash against AC Monza this weekend.

According to CalcioMercato, the England international is working overtime at the Centro Sportivo Gloriano Mugnaini to be fit enough to make the matchday squad this Sunday to finally make his debut for Sampdoria, with Winks yet to feature for his new club since joining on loan.

Fitness has been a major issue for the Tottenham star in recent years. Yet Winks is putting in the hard yards at Sampdoria ahead of their league clash against newly-promoted Monza, with the 26-year-old’s training regiment one that even Antonio Conte will be proud of.

The Italian manager is regarded for his intense training sessions, with the Tottenham squad this summer facing the full brunt of how brutal Conte’s methods can be when numerous players were filmed collapsing to the ground with exhaustion out in South Korea.

Indeed, Winks has a lot to prove this season with Sampdoria after falling well below his best with Tottenham in recent years. However, Italy has proven to be quite the landing spot for British talents looking for a way to return to their peak form, with Fikayo Tomori the obvious standout option.

With Winks now working overtime to get to full fitness, Tottenham will be pleased with this development from their former midfield superstar. And getting ready for the clash this weekend against Monza will be a great test for the 26-year-old for what could be the Spurs star’s biggest season yet.

It’s quite easy to forget that Winks was once viewed by many as one of the most exciting English talents about. However, injuries and inconsistent form have led to the downfall of the midfielder in recent years. Yet a spell in Genoa with Sampdoria could work wonders on the Tottenham academy graduate.

As we know, Italy is proving to be quite the nation for British talents to rediscover their best form, and for Winks, there’s a good chance that the midfielder could return to Tottenham next summer a new player if he can return to his best after a year in Serie A.
