Report: Tottenham linked with late move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi, but is a deal realistic?

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur could be interested in a late transfer window move to sign Liverpool forward Divock Origi – though whether a move is realistic is another matter.

Spurs tied up their first two signings of the summer last week, as goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga and defender Davinson Sanchez have arrived from Southampton and Ajax respectively, but manager Mauricio Pochettino may still want more.

Given that the London Evening Standard report that Tottenham will allow Vincent Janssen to leave before Thursday’s transfer deadline, another striker could be on Pochettino’s wish list.

The Telegraph report that Liverpool could allow forward Divock Origi to leave Anfield before Thursday’s transfer deadline, and Tottenham are mentioned as a possible destination for him.

Origi, 22, has hit 21 goals in 76 games for Liverpool since arriving from Lille, but he may now be behind Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the attacking pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

If Origi is available, then Tottenham may well be keen on signing him, having been interested in signing him during the 2014 World Cup, according to The Mirror – and he would fit some aspects of what Pochettino is looking for.

With pace and versatility to play across the front line, Origi can be ideal cover for Harry Kane in attack, and whilst Liverpool may well consider letting him leave, a move to Tottenham may not be ideal for the Reds.

Liverpool won’t want to strengthen a top four rival, even if it’s with a player they feel they have no use for anymore, and they may feel that Origi could aid Tottenham in their pursuit of Champions League qualification, simply by offering a greater goalscoring threat than Janssen.

Tottenham may tempt Liverpool into a deal with a large fee, but a deal between two top four rivals so late in the transfer window seems unrealistic, even if Origi may have a better chance of first-team football with Spurs.
