Tottenham are reportedly keen on World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard is set to remain with current club Stuttgart ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, despite huge interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old shone for France at the World Cup, despite a rusty start against Australia. He came good, scoring one of the goals of the tournament against Argentina and keeping Croatia’s Ivan Perisic largely quiet during the final.
The Mirror claim Spurs are interested in the 12-time France international, while SWR Sport claim Bayern Munich are winning the race to land the versatile defender – who can play at right-back or centre-back.
But now, it appears that both Spurs and Bayern will miss out on Pavard, who is keen to remain at Stuttgart this summer before moving away from the German outfit this time next year – when he will have a release clause of £29.4million.
The clause is in Pavard’s current contract, but only becomes active from next summer. Stuttgart currently value the rising star at a hefty £45million, but the likelihood of any interested parties paying that figure is small.
That is according to the report, which states that Pavard is now set to remain with Stuttgart at least until next season, which could see Spurs finally land their man in a year’s time.
