Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly likely to bid for Paulo Dybala in January.
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are likely to make a new move for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala in January.
Spurs were in the market for a new playmaker over the summer, and whilst Giovani Lo Celso did arrive from Real Betis on deadline day, fans were hoping for a bigger name.
Juventus ace Dybala was strongly linked, as The Independent claimed that Spurs spent three weeks attempting to get a deal done, with the £350,000-a-week ace keen on a move to work with Mauricio Pochettino.
However, image rights meant the deal didn’t go through, and with no exit now expected before the end of the European transfer window, Dybala is likely to stay with Juventus at least until January.
Regardless, it’s claimed that Spurs are likely to return with a new move, seemingly hoping that Juventus are still interested in selling when the transfer window re-opens for Tottenham.
That would be na incredible mid-season signing for Pochettino and co, but there are various factors that could impact such a move before then.
The first is Christian Eriksen’s future. If Spurs can sell him before his contract expires next summer, they may well have extra cash available to finally land Dybala – but the Dane may yet choose to run down his contract, which could be an issue for Tottenham, both financially and in terms of Pochettino’s squad balance.
Add in that Dybala is set for a new role as a false nine under Maurizio Sarri, and he could still save his Juventus career by thriving in that position, just as Dries Mertens did for Sarri at Napoli.
Tottenham also aren’t in great form right now, and if they still look patchy in the Premier League or Champions League come January, a move may look a little less appealing, so whilst Tottenham may well plan to make a new move, plenty can change before January.
