Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase to sign Metz striker Habib Diallo in the upcoming transfer window, according to La Semaine.
As we’re sure you’re all aware by now, Harry Kane mustered more touches of the ball in his own box than he did in Everton’s during Monday night’s drab 1-0 win in north London.
But the problem, it seems, does not lie with Tottenham’s talismanic number ten but with the role he is being asked to play under Jose Mourinho.
Kane was used to being served up chances on a silver platter during the free-flowing football of the Mauricio Pochettino era.
These days, however, to say he is having to survive on scraps would be an understatement.
So if Diallo was tuning in to watch his potential future employers last night, he won’t have been too impressed.
The Senegal international hit the net 12 times in Ligue 1 last season for a limited Metz side, racing onto through balls and finishing clinically like a rangy, long-limbed Jamie Vardy (Le Quotidien).
Reports in France claim that Tottenham are leading the race to sign Diallo, who has also been linked with an £18 million move to Leeds, Chelsea and, apparently, a Leicester side planning for the post-Vardy era.
But while Chelsea and Leicester play some of the finest, attacking football in England on top form, you have to question why any promising young striker would want to lead the line for Mourinho these days.
“Already last January, there was an offer from Tottenham,” Diallo’s agent told APS last month.
“Now he has received an exit offer and, as soon as the European markets open, (his departure) should be settled.”
