Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Koen Casteels from Wolfsburg this summer, by the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho’s side are looking at signing a new number one, with Hugo Lloris’ future at Tottenham now seriously in doubt.

Lloris has struggled at times this term, and it is felt that the experienced goalkeeper could now be replaced.

Tottenham initially seemed to have a plan to go after a Premier League proven goalkeeper, with Nick Pope right at the top of their list.

However, his price-tag has proven prohibitive – and the Mail now say that it is Casteels who is on their shortlist.

The Belgian international should be available for a much cheaper fee, but he remains a big talent.

“Koen has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world at VfL, and his quality and character are a huge support and a role model for the whole team,” Wolfsburg’s managing director of sport, Jörg Schmadtke, said (BulliNews).

“With him and our other goalkeepers, we’re very well stocked in this position.”

Considering Lloris is Tottenham’s current captain, those leadership qualities could come in crucial for Spurs if Casteels was to arrive.

And although he may be a cheaper option than Pope, he could still be an excellent addition to Mourinho’s squad.
