Italian outlet L’Interesta claim Tottenham are one of four clubs pursuing a move to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis MacAllister – joining Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the race to sign the Argentina maestro in January.

MacAllister, 23, has starred for Argentina at the World Cup – helping his country reach a place in the semi-finals. He and his teammates have a real chance to go on and win the entire thing, in what is Lionel Messi’s last World Cup.

Brighton’s no.10 was not part of the side that suffered a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia – remaining an unused sub. But since then, he has started all four of Argentine’s World Cup matches since the loss. Mexico, Poland, Australia and Holland.

He scored in the 2-0 win over Poland and lasted the entire 120 minutes against the Netherlands. Now, he will be preparing to start in a semi-final against Croatia – alongside Tottenham ace Cristian Romero, and of course, Messi.

The latest report suggests it might not be Brighton much longer for the Seagulls no.10. Inter have been long-linked with a move – but now, Tottenham, Diego Simeone’s Atleti and Antonio Conte’s old side Juventus are all interested.

Tottenham pursuing move to sign Brighton midfielder MacAllister

What a signing MacAllister would be for Tottenham. Conte has the defensive midfielders at his disposal. But ever since Spurs sold Christian Eriksen, they have not brought in an attacking midfielder that can give the strikers ammunition.

Indeed, Harry Kane has been the man to drop in. Or Dejan Kulusevski – more recently – has supplied the needed creation from out wide. Spurs need a 10. They need a player that can give Conte’s side a bit of flair, a bit of magic.

MacAllister should be a no-brainer. He would also give Spurs a player that can score goals from free-kicks. A player that Brighton teammate Joel Veltman described as “amazing”. Bought for £7m, his value is likely to have sky-rocketed.
