Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Gareth Southgate.
According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in English boss Gareth Southgate should Mauricio Pochettino leave any time from now until next summer.
Spurs stopped a worrying run of form by beating Southampton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, with Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane on the scoresheet.
Pochettino will be glad to have claimed three points after crashing out of the Carabao Cup to Colchester United, but speculation continues over his future.
Many still feel that Pochettino will be moving on soon, whether that’s this season or at the end of the campaign, and Spurs are making contingency plans just in case he does end up going.
It’s claimed that Daniel Levy and co have identified Southgate as the top choice to replace Pochettino, having been impressed with his work as England boss in recent years.
Southgate has used the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Harry Kane in his England side, and that existing relationship may just be a key factor in Tottenham’s interest.
The report even states what Tottenham had identified Southgate as their top target earlier this year when there were concerns about Pochettino’s future, only for the Argentinian to stay after all.
His last club spell didn’t end well as he was sacked by Middlesbrough in the Championship, and whilst he has impressed as England, that lack of club success may be a concern.
For now, Pochettino is in the job and Tottenham fans don’t need to worry; this just seems like Spurs lining up targets in case Pochettino does end up moving on, if true. Spurs would much rather just keep Pochettino for years to come and hope it doesn’t come to approaching Southgate, but it’s smart to have targets in mind if the worst happens.
